The livesimply message
God calls us to look hard at our lifestyles and
to choose to live simply, sustainably and in
solidarity with people who are poor. In this way
we can help to create a world in which human
dignity is respected and everyone can reach their
full potential. This would be true progress,
worth more than economic growth alone.
3
livesimply launched
across the Catholic community in England
Wales during Advent 2006
we meet together to launch livesimply which
draws its inspiration from Pope Paul VIs
prophetic encyclical, Populorum Progressio, and
its message to the church is as relevant today as
it was when it was published forty years ago,
perhaps even more so.
Bishop Declan Lang at the launch of livesimply in
Clifton Cathedral

and action in Parishes

livesimply is about changing things so that
people in the developing world can live with more
dignity. As individuals, we need to reflect on
our own lifestyles. I want people to take action,
not just to feel sympathy.
Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama of Jos, Nigeria
visiting dioceses and parishes

Building relationships across the country
  • livesimply was taken into every deanery in
Salford Diocese with a programme run by the CAFOD
office and the Faith and Justice Commission.
  • livesimply has grown in partnership with the

Engaging politicians
John Battle MP has signed a livesimply promise to
live on 99 per cent of his income
People's lifestyle choices here in the UK really
do have an effect on people in developing
countries, we're lucky to be able to make
choices. livesimply is a welcome reminder to us
as politicians that in our constituencies we need
to continue to make connections between global
issues and our local ones. John Battle MP

I can speak of poverty with a newly found
authority, not as an expert of course, but as one
who found myself forced to confront its
consequences directly. I understand more
profoundly how poverty touches lives, how it
corrupts, its complexities, and how responding to
it requires courage and sacrifice.
David Wells adult educator, Plymouth Diocese
