1
Vacutainer Conversion to tall 13x100 mm tubes
  • Laboratory Changes

2
Laboratory Changes
  • To better serve Duke Medicine, DUHS Clinical
Laboratories are implementing automation in high
    volume testing
  • Full automation expected by January 14, 2008
  • DUHS must switch to the taller 13X100mm
    vacutainer tubes.
  • Tube conversion begins November 5, 2007

3
What to Expect
  • Introduction of LIGHT GREEN Li HEPARIN PLASMA
    SEPARATER TUBES (PST) in Chemistry
  • PST will be required for many tests that are
currently collected in SST and some LAVENDER
  • Introduction of WHITE EDTA Plasma Preparation
    Tube
  • WHITE EDTA will replace most LAV and some SST in
    Chemistry testing
  • Ex Amikacin, Lithium, Insulin

4
What to Expect
  • Bar code label will indicate either PST, SST,
    LAV, WHITE as appropriate
  • All tube colors that are currently available will
still be available after the conversion, just in
    the taller variety
  • The only tubes not effected will be LAVENDER
TOP-EDTA (used for Hematology) and LIGHT BLUE
    TOP-CITRATE (used for Coagulation)

5
Examples of Tests
