As a teacher who already works an expanded
day correcting papers, preparing materials, and
planning, I worry that I will not have enough
time to plan and prepare for an expanded day.
Our current teaching materials in science
social studies are inadequate. In order to
implement an expanded day successfully, we NEED
to have good teaching materials ready at our
fingertips that meet the standards in all
subjects. We will not have time to create
materials -- or extensively tweak them to align
with our standards -- as we are currently doing.
I worry that I will not have the time or energy
to do my necessary coursework for professional
status, working an expanded day. I do believe
that an expanded day is in the best interest of
our students if it is prepared for adequately and
implemented correctly.

Time in school should be used efficiently
there is plenty of time in the school day for
everything that needs to be taught and more. A
longer school day seems to punish the advanced
students by forcing them to stay in school for
more hours just because lower achieving students
drag down test scores. Be honest, if the
standardized test scores were high, would anyone
in the district be interested in a longer school
day? I think you know the answer to that one.

If it is proven that ELT enriches our childrens
learning experience, there is no reason why I
would object. I realize that the school day
would be longer, but I believe that my children
would benefit if there were enrichment programs
available.

As long as ELT is not more of the same, I would
agree that students need to find another way to
engage in the school day.

With academic scores across the country falling
precipitously for many years now, it would be a
travesty if this did not come to pass. The great
opportunity we have here to educate our children
- the countrys future leaders - should be seized
immediately.
