SESSION 17Guidance for the computer-based TCT
2
We want you to pass
  • Honestly, we do not write assessments with the
    aim of tricking you.
  • We want you to demonstrate that you have
understood and can apply the knowledge in a
    practical setting.
  • This TCT is important as it demonstrates that you
have all learned the practical aspects of
    databases.
  • I would expect everyone to pass who has applied
    themselves and attended.

3
Main pitfalls
  • Most students who have regularly attended and
have tried the mock TCT pass with no problem.
  • Some have problems with time management and
spending too long on something thats not
working- you should move on and try to get marks
from the questions following the tricky question.

4
Syntax
  • Try to practice the common input masks and
validation syntax as it easy to forget the exact
    syntax under test conditions

5
Complete the tutorials
  • If you have missed any tutorials you must catch
    up.
  • If you have worked together in tutorials and one
of you has not really understood the concepts
then this will show in the test.
  • You can revise together, try setting each other
tasks-you will find that explaining a concept to
one of your peers is excellent at firming up your
    understanding
  • The best way to learn something is to teach it!!

6
Follow the instructions
  • Make sure you read the instructions and complete
    all parts.
  • Make sure the database has been saved initially
on a floppy disk. If you work on the hard drive
then forget to copy it onto the floppy, the
markers may receive an empty disk.
  • Access saves everything as an object (form or
table e.g.) is closed, therefore be very careful
with changes and not closing the forms before you
    are ready.
