Judaism
  • Mezuzah
  • On the doorposts of traditional Jewish homes (and
many not-so-traditional homes!), you will find a
small case like the one pictured at left. This
case is commonly known as a mezuzah (Heb.
doorpost), because it is placed upon the
doorposts of the house. The mezuzah is not, as
some suppose, a good-luck charm, nor does it have
any connection with the lamb's blood placed on
the doorposts in Egypt. Rather, it is a constant
    reminder of God's presence

Judaism
  • Torah
  • The word "Torah" is a tricky one, because it can
mean different things in different contexts. In
its most limited sense, "Torah" refers to the
Five Books of Moses Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus,
Numbers and Deuteronomy. But the word "torah" can
also be used to refer to the entire Jewish bible
(the body of scripture known to non-Jews as the
Old Testament and to Jews as the Tanakh or
Written Torah), or in its broadest sense, to the
whole body of Jewish law and teachings.

Christianity
  • Cross- The cross is one of the most ancient human
symbols, and is used by many religions, such as
    Christianity.

  • Jesus Founder of Christianity

6
Christianity
  • Bible- The Bible is a collection of 66 books
written by about 40 authors, in three different
languages, on three different continents, over
approximately 1600 years.  It is the source of
the Christian religion in that the Bible contains
the words of God and how the Christian is to
apply the words of God to his life.

7
Islam
  • Islam is a monotheistic religion originating with
the teachings of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, a
7th century Arab religious and political figure.
The word Islam means "submission", or the total
    surrender of oneself to God.

Islam
  • The Star and Crescent Symbol - The star and
crescent is a well-known symbol of Islam. It
features prominently on the flags of many
countries in the Islamic world, notably Turkey
    and Pakistan.
  • Contrary to popular belief, the symbol is not
Muslim in origin. Rather, it was a polytheistic
icon adopted during the spread of Islam, and its
use today is sometimes controversial in the
    Muslim world.
  • The crescent and star are often said to be
Islamic symbols, but historians say that they
were the insignia of the Ottoman Empire, not of
    Islam as a whole.
