Building Markings
  • Building markings indicate status of a building
    or structure
  • When a team went in
  • When they came out
  • What hazards they found
  • What casualties they found
  • Not a detailed reconnaissance report
  • You really only need to know they exist!

11
Building Markings
  • INSARAG system
  • At structure entrance
  • Size 1m x 1m
  • English text
  • International orange

12
Barrier Tape
  • Operational Work Zone
  • Hazard/Collapse Zone

13
Building Side Identification
14
Building Sectorisation

15
Floor Labeling
  • Floor labeling is often inconsistent
  • USAR has a standard convention
  • Think about a building like Rankine-Brown!

16
Briefing
  • Generally only team leader and deputy will attend
a briefing given by the incident controller
  • Both should take notes
  • Team leader then briefs the team
  • Team members should take notes at this point

17
Briefing
  • Briefing will consist of at least
  • Situation
  • Task
  • How Task is to be achieved
  • Communications
  • Questions should wait until the end
  • Make sure you are told and note down a reporting
    back time

18
Mapping
  • We can make maps of an area being searched to
help us remember what we found and where.
  • Your map does not have to be 100 accurate or
tidy as long as you can understand it!
  • Information will generally be transferred to a
larger more accurate map when reporting back.

19
Mapping
  • If you dont know size of area to be mapped be
    prepared to use several pages!
  • Better to draw larger maps over multiple pages
than end up with tiny unreadable drawings.
