Transition Planning
  • One-on-one meeting with each senior twice a year
  • Meet with juniors in a small group once a year

    in fulfillment of plan

Transition to college series
  • Seven presentations throughout the year on
    subjects pertaining to college
  • Presenters are from Century College
  • Presentations last about 30 minutes each and are
    held on Fridays once a month during class
  • Students can choose which presentations to attend
    based on their level of interest or need
  • Attending five of the seven presentations will
    earn a student 20 (application fee refund from
    Century College)
  • Opportunity to take college placement test

Things to Think About When choosing
a College
  • Decide on a goal for the first semester.
  • Look at your assessment scores.
  • Consider what hours you can attend and how many
    credits you can take.
  • Make a time plan. How will you balance work,
    school and a social life.

Managing Your Time
  • Recommended amount of study time
  • 2 to 3 hours of study time per credit.
  • 12 credit load means you should study a minimum
    of 24 hours a week.
  • Consider all of your life obligations when you
    determine your credit load.

ACCUPLACER TEST
  • Everyone is accepted to Century College but the
    score you get on the assessment test helps the
    school place you in the correct classes
  • Certain majors require higher test scores
  • You can take the test twice in a 12 month period
  • The test is done on a computer, and is not timed
  • Areas tested Reading, Sentence Skills and Math
  • Scores print out immediately after testing and
    each student is counseled about their score
  • Students can take test at college of choice or at
    the 916 CTC on specified dates

Study Strategies
  • Give yourself enough rest and energy (from food)
  • Use a calendar to help set aside time for
    studying and know when assignments are due
  • Know your learning style visual, auditory, etc
  • Study in an environment similar to the one you
    will be testing in
  • Get help from tutors or support staff
  • Plan to use 2-3 hours outside of class for each
    hour in class
