- The vision of the Early Learning Coalition of
Manatee is to support high quality school
readiness opportunities for all children and
their families, understanding that it is in the
first years of life that a childs future
educational success is determined. -

- The Mission of the Early Learning Coalition of
Manatee is to coordinate the services in school
readiness programs in an efficient manner in
order to help all children develop the skills
needed to achieve future educational success, to
support the role of parents as their first and
most important teacher, and continue to improve
the quality of services available in the
community.
8- History and Board Governance
- School Readiness Legislation 411.01 passes in
1998 - The School Readiness Coalition of Manatee County
was formed - Voluntary Prekindergarten Legislation HB1A signed
into law in 2005 - Coalition was renamed the Early Learning
Coalition of Manatee - ELC of Manatee governed by 23 Board Members
representing Manatee County

- Administer and oversee the School Readiness and
VPK Early Learning Programs - Provide high quality subsidized child care and
VPK services through a Child Care Resource and
Referral network. - Collaborate with businesses and community
organizations to support families, educate
teachers, and prepare children for school
success.

- Increase of licensed and accredited child care
and early education programs - Provide health (vision and hearing) and
developmental screening and assessment
opportunities for children - Increase the quantity and quality of
infant/toddler services

- Provided to at-risk children, birth to age 12,
who are from low income families under
protective services, or who have identified
disabilities or other significant risk factors. - Major objectives of the School Readiness Program
are to prevent abuse and neglect of children to
prepare children to enter school ready to learn
to assist families to become or maintain economic
- self-sufficiency and to support work place
literacy and competency.

- 3,495 children in 202 school readiness programs
in private and faith-based centers, family child
care homes, and school district programs were
served through these efforts.

- A free program for all children who live in
Florida and who turn 4 by September 1st - Participating in VPK gives families an
opportunity to help their children reach their
full potential - High quality VPK increases a childs chances of
succeeding in school. - Emphasis is placed on the development of early
literacy, which is the foundation for learning to
read.

neighborhood early learning program to volunteer,
read a story, or share a skill. - Provide books or age-appropriate materials for
the classrooms or contribute to the Early
Learning Coalitions Mini-Grant Program. - Provide text books for teachers advancing their
early childhood degree or contribute to the Early
Learning Coalitions Professional Development
Scholarship Fund. - Participate in the Child Care Executive
Partnership Program - and receive a dollar for dollar match from
the State of Florida.
