Human Body Systems
2
Thinking
  • Thinking back to 7th grade What are some of the
human body systems? Make a list

3
Intro to Human systems
  • The study of the structure of an organism and its
    parts is called anatomy
  • For example
  • The anatomy of your mouth tells you how many
    teeth you have
  • Physiology is the study of what the structures of
    organisms do.
  • For example
  • Study of the teeth tells you how the jaw works to
    process food

4
Levels of organization
  • The human body is composed of many cells
  • The cell is the smallest level of organization
  • Many cells make up a tissue
  • Many tissues make up an organ
  • Many organs make up an organ system

5

6
Types of tissue
  • There are four main types of tissue
  • Epithelial tissue
  • Closely packed cells that line your internal
    organs and cover your body
  • Connective Tissue
  • Hold together and support other tissues, i.e..
    Bone, cartilage, blood

7
Types of tissue cont
  • Nervous Tissue
  • Communication cells, basic unit is a neuron or
    nerve cell
  • Muscle tissue
  • Tissues for movement

8
Organ Systems
  • There are 11 main organ systems in the human body
