FeatherweatherlandReal Finches in a Magic Land

Oh, What a Month, Sensei!A Featherweatherland
story as told by CinnaMan (a Spice finch)
  • Thank you, Sensei! Three of us males have
    fiances now.
  • We had already picked out beautiful nests from a
catalog that you bought for us and we started
singing beautiful songs, hopped up and down a
lot, did flight tricks, stretched our wings, and
looked out the window (we have a window in front
of our flight cage if someone hasnt seen the
first page of our book) to see if any finches
were watching us. We bathed twice a day instead
of once a day. We all looked awesome. Then, we
got together after we didnt see any potential
mates, and asked you if we all could have a
    meeting.

3
  • It was a great meeting, Sensei, because we found
out that you are a baishakunin! We each put in
our request for a wife, filled out the forms, had
our background checks, our finances were
carefully gone over, and you started looking for
a suitable mate for each of us the next day. It
didnt take long for you to locate a suitable,
and beautiful, orange cheek manikin female and a
beautiful, but shy, bronze wing manikin female.
You even found a perfectly dotted and kind Spice
finch female. That made three of us so very
    happy.

4
  • You looked so many places for suitable Warbler,
Cordon Bleu, and Star females. After a while you
had to tell Starr, Kiley, and Blue that they
would not have mates this season. We felt so
sorry for them! It was hard, Sensei, because
they were so unhappy. They said they understood
how hard it is to find suitable mates but you
could still see the unhappiness on their faces.
Sometimes we cant have what we want the most,
they said. I, personally, think they even cried
because I could hear them at night.

5
  • Sensei, how can you be happy when you get
something and yet sad because your friends didnt
get what they want? You told us that karma is a
funny thing If all causes and conditions come
together a certain way, a bird gets a mate. If
all causes and conditions dont come together
completely, a bird doesnt get a mate. You told
us that we were not better finches than Blue,
Starr, and Kiley. The causes and conditions and
the results were, in part, because you could not
locate potential mates no matter how hard you
    tried.

6
  • One of the conditions you said, was that you
refused to order mates for us on the internet
because you could not be sure of their character
and if they really did want to have husbands.
One of the causes was that your friend, Donna
Nakamura, doesnt raise finches anymore. After
twenty years of raising finches, parrots, doves,
and parakeets, she said she was getting too old
to take good care of them and gave about a
hundred of them to a friend in Idaho (who came
and got all of them). All she has now are Zebra
finches. You ran out of causes and conditions,
    didnt you, Sensei?

7
  • The three of us who got fiances have been very
kind to our potential mates. They dont seem to
be in any hurry to cuddle up with us or even
preen us on our necks. You tell us we have to be
patient too, just like Kiley, Blue, and Starr.
Just because we have potential mates doesnt mean
that they are in a hurry to get married. They
are checking us out too, arent they! Hopefully,
it wont be too long before they realize that we
males are all really going to be good Buddhist
    husbands.

8
  • Why are we in such a hurry to get what we want,
Sensei? Why dont we remember to thank you
because some of us were badly treated before you
got us and you took special care of us while we
healedand you helped us learn how to be happy
again? Why dont we remember to be grateful that
we live in a wonderful place like
Featherweatherland with all the food and water we
need and which is the most gentle land in
Visalia/Hanford? Why, why, why, Sensei, cant we
have exactly what we want when we want it! Why?

9
  • We know, Sensei, what are you going to say
nextjust say Namoamidabutsu. You did tell us
what that means. It means, We rely upon the
Infinite Wisdom and Infinite Compassion of the
Universe to guide us because we cant do it
    alone.
  • Sensei, it is not helping.yet.
  • Maybe we are still too young to understand.
