Aims of this session

• At the end of the session participants should be
  aware of
• a range of authoring strategies and the
  circumstances they are most suitable for use
• approaches to indexing particularly in the
  context of higher education
• the role of caching, the issues and problems
  surrounding it, and aspects of helping users cope
  with caching

We need

• Help with scheduling and undertaking updating
  content
• Guidance on creating and writing templates,
  stylesheets
• Deeper knowledge of publishing databases and
  associated technologies
• Guidance on content management

• Authoring strategies
• Indexing
• Using the Janet cache

Recommendations

• Feedback to Janet cache to investigate poss. of
  searchable form for non-cachable items and
  software developments to allow caching on
  IP-authenticated sites, and to improve error
  message page for users
• Full day regional workshops to give advice and
  guidance on managing content - keeping it
  up-to-date, managing flow and templating -
  Manchester, London, Birmingham, Glasgow were
  suggested as locations
• Netskills courses for both Databases and Content
  Management were recommended
