What does PREP stand for?
  • Post
  • Registration
  • Education and
  • Practice

7
PREP (practice) Standard
  • Requires nurses to have worked using their
qualification for a minimum of 450 hours during
previous 3years (for each part of the register).
  • If not achieved, you must undertake an approved
    return to nursing course.

8
PREP ( continuing professional development
standard)
  • You must have undertaken and recorded your
    continuing professional development (CPD)
undertaken in the three years prior to
    registration renewal.
  • This is recorded in your professional profile and
declared on your notification to practice form.

9
How do you feel when someone asks you if you have
a portfolio?
10
Task 1.
  • Write down your definition of a portfolio
  • Working in twos discuss what the differences
between a portfolio and a profile?

11
A Portfolio is
  • A personal portfolio is a personal collection of
    evidence which demonstrates the continuing
    acquisition of skills, knowledge, attitudes,
    understanding and achievement.
  • It is therefore your decision which aspects you
may wish to share with others.

12
A Profile is
  • for a particular purpose or audience.
Consequently a profile is a more public document
and so issues of confidentiality, accountability
and the moral and ethical decisions about
selection and preparation of material are
    important.

13
Why keep a portfolio?
  • As a way of collecting evidence that demonstrates
your personal and professional skills, knowledge
    and development.
  • Compiling specific evidence for your professional
    registration e.g. prep for NMC
  • Compiling examples of learning required for your
    KSF development review.

14
Who sees my portfolio?
  • You!
  • Anyone you wish to share it with e.g. a colleague
    who is developing their portfolio.
  • REMEMBER- you will extract elements you chose to
make public e.g. NMC and KSF development review,
    job interview, coursework.

15
When should I start mine?
  • Now is a good time!
  • Evolving document
  • Retrospective, current and prospective
  • Whenever you can utilise your time (work and at
    home).
  • It could be when you have identified a gap in
your knowledge or when you have positive
    reflections to document.

16
What could it include?
  • This is individual and personal to you. There is
no prescription for the sections or components of
    your portfolio.
  • However, there are many published documents
available for you to purchase or access free of
charge that can guide you with general elements
    to include.
  • Evidence demonstrating your knowledge and skills
as identified in your KSF outline

17
Task 2
  • In small groups, consider what types of evidence
could be offered for the following job outline..

18

Now how do you feel about developing your
portfolio?
Enjoy it and good luck
