Excretory system
2
Parts of System
  • 1. Ureter Transports nitrogenous waste from the
    kidneys to urinary bladder.
  • 2. Bladder Where urine is stored.
  • 3. Kidney Regulates amount of water lost from
    the body.
  • 4. Urethra Tube that carries urine from the
    bladder and out.

3
Nephron
  • Nephron Removes waste material, water, and
    harmful substances from the body.

4
How urine is formed
  • Urine is formed by first filtering the blood of
    its small molecules ions.
  • Then, reclaiming the needed amounts of useful
    materials.
  • Finally, the surplus or waste molecules ions
that are left to flow out as urine.

5
What is Kidney Dialysis?
  • Kidney Dialysis is used to take impurities from
the blood when the kidneys are not working
    properly.
  • How does it work? Its a method for removing
waste such as urea from the blood when the
kidneys are incapable of this i.e. inronal
    failure.

6
Vocabulary
  • Renal Veins- Short thick veins which return blood
from the kidneys to the vena cava.
  • Urea- An end product of protein that is
decomposition is synthesized from carbon dioxide.
  • Urine- Waste material that is secreted by the
    kidneys in vertebrates.
  • Nephron- A single excretory unit of the
    vertebrates kidney
  • Glomerlus- Main filter of nephron and is located
    within Bowmans capsule.
  • Bowmans Capsule- contains primary filtering
device of the nephron blood is transported here.
  • Proximal tubule-first region of nephron,
reabsorption happens here of specific componets
from the filtrate back to blood.
  • Distal tubule-partially responsible for the
    regulation of potassium, sodium, calcium.
  • Homeostasis- ability or tendency of an organism
or cell to maintain internal equilibrium by
    adjusting its physiological process.
