History

• The original garden was founded in 1889 by the
  University of St. Andrews.
• It was .25 acres and had 78 regular shaped beds
  in the middle of town.
• In the 1960s the garden was moved to its present
  location on the west end of town.
• The garden is now 18.5 acres and has 8000 plant
  species.
