Title: Trent CLRN Portfolio Studies Review

1
  • Trent CLRN Portfolio Studies Review
  • (November 2007 April 2008)

2
Studies Review
  • November 2007 - details of studies with a
portfolio number were provided by member Trusts
  • 539 studies were identified with a portfolio
    number
  • 291 remained after duplicates removed (i.e.
studies active in more than one Trust)

3
  • February 2008 UKCRN provided an assessment of
    the studies submitted
  • 15 in set up, suspended or closed
  • 92 closed to recruitment but in follow-up phase
  • 184 studies open to accrual
  • 24 of these were potential CRN studies
    (incomplete minimum data set)
  • 160 studies were fully adopted and open

4
  • April 2008 UKCRN reported that
  • 115 studies have provided accrual data since
    April 2007
  • 2425 participants reported as accrued across all
    member Trusts
  • this number includes accrual to studies active
in more than one organisation and accrued through
    co-adoption with another network

6
  • 45 studies have not reported accrual (April 07
    March 08)
  • Of these 45 studies, 16 studies are in paediatric
oncology and are expected to recruit infrequently
  • 29 (18) studies identified as open and not
reporting accrual are TCRN adopted studies and
this is being addressed with the networks
  • 97 of accrual is currently into TCRN studies (in
line with 95 nationally), with the largest
    accrual number to the NCRN
  • Majority of studies have been adopted by a TCRN,
with co-adoption of several studies by the PCRN

Accrual queries
  • Accrual can only be uploaded by the CI and those
    nominated by the CI
  • If there is a query regarding accrual for
particular studies please send a request for
    enquiry to richard.hart_at_nuh.nhs.uk who will
liaise with the appropriate TCRN or CI (process
    advised by the UKCRN)
  • In the request state the
  • UKCRN Portfolio Number
  • Short title of study/ Acronym
  • Details of the query / discrepancy
  • NB UKCRN accrual is being recorded from April
    2007 only

Portfolio Adoption CI in Trent CLRN area
  • As national systems are not yet in place, we need
to set up a Local Portfolio Management System
(LPMS) for the Trent CRLN area
  • Until IRAS and CPS are in full use we will not
know about applications where they are sent
directly to the UKCRN coordinating centre -
unless they are copied to us
  • So please copy all applications for Portfolio
Adoption which you become aware of to
    richard.hart_at_nuh.nhs.uk, and advise your CIs
    accordingly
  • Study adoption in order to avoid duplication
and confusion, only the Trust where the CI is
located should complete the Initial Study
    Registration Proforma

11
Portfolio Adoption CI in NOT Trent CLRN area
  • If you receive an RD application for a
potentially eligible study where the CI is based
elsewhere, please let us know about that, too
  • Please provide details of
  • CI Name
  • Address
  • Full Title of Study
  • REC Reference and any other identifiable
    reference e.g. ISRCTN
  • We will then liaise with the CIs CLRN for this
    study to be followed up
  • We can then track the progress of applications
with PIs in the Trent CLRN area

The NIHR IS Programme
  • IRAS
  • CSP
  • NIHR Portal
  • National RD Management Information System (RD
    MIS)

14
What is the NIHR Portal?
  • The Portal is an installation of Microsoft Office
    SharePoint Server 2007
  • Will be the primary gateway and platform for all
NIHR systems and services - the one-stop shop
referred to in Best Research for Best Health
  • Requires no software installation and needs only
an Internet browser, a connection and logon
    credentials
  • Offers a unique way for geographically-spread and
diversely employed teams to collaborate and
    communicate

15
  • We are about to start using the Portal as an
    information sharing tool
  • Initially by the Core Team
  • Then extended to
  • Executive Group
  • Board Members
  • RD Managers
  • TCRN Managers
  • Other partners

16
What is RDMIS?
  • National RD Management Information System
  • Building blocks of RDMIS
  • IRAS
  • Portal
  • National research projects database
  • National people database
  • Unlikely that RDMIS will ever be a single system
  • but it will enable a number of systems to
    interoperate

17
  • Some elements of RD MIS already in place are
    being improved
  • COREC gt National RD Application gt IRAS
  • Portfolio (inherited system) gt National Database
    of Research Projects
  • Others are being developed and introduced
  • CSP (Integrated with IRAS)
  • National Database of Researchers (NIHR Faculty /
    Research Passport)
