Introduction

• Manatees are a very valuable and popular animal
  to have on earth. We are trying to show you the
  problems and threats of the manatee.

ENDANGERED STATUS

• The manatee is on the U.S. Endangered Species
  List.
• Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana,
  Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and
  Texas are the states where the manatees normally
  visit and have manatee hunting prohibiting laws.

ENDANGERED STATUS (CONTINUED)

• Population growth and tourism have meant damage
  to the Manatee.
• The large animal is slow and incautious, and many
  individuals are injured or killed by boat
  propellers (in some Manatee habitats, boating is
  now prohibited or speeds regulated).

PROBLEMS

• Boats cause 25 of manatee deaths.
• There used to be 12 types of species, but now
  there are only 4.
• Power boats are the biggest threat to manatees.

• Manatees are slow near-surface swimmers,making
  them easy to hit with a boat.
• They are highly endangered.

PROBLEMS (CONTINUED)

• In 1990, 218 manatees were killed which reduced
  12 of the United States manatees. The collision
  numbers keep increasing.

DISCIPLINE SOLUTIONS

• Manatees are protected by Florida state laws. If
  you choose to violate the law and harass them
  then you will get one year in prison and
  20,000 in fines.
