  lessons
• Treat them the same as the other pupils
• Mode of explanation may need to be different
• Use hand gestures
• Emphasise what you want them to do
• Speak the child not the SNA
• May need Special Equipment
• May need assistance on entry and exit

• Responsible for Exam Return Forms and
  Certificates
• Organise method of transport from school to
  pool
• Ensure pool rules are followed
• Informs Swim Teacher of any necessary details
• Special Needs
• Asthma, Epilepsy

• Practical Issues
• EAP (Emergency Action Plan)
• Evaluation and Monitoring of the Programme
• Child protection procedures
• Can also be PAWS Co-ordinator

Aquatics Assistant

• Qualified to help out on pool deck under
  supervision and instruction of fully qualified
  personnel
• Swim Teacher should work with them
• They could be of use with
• Pupils with less confidence than others
• Pupils with particular difficulty

Special Needs Assistant

• Employed by the Department of Education and
  Science
• May/may not assist the pupil in the water
• Works under the direction of the Swim Teacher
• Appropriate dress code
• Working with Swim Teacher
