COUNTING WITH DOMINOES

VOCABULARY
  • What does it mean to observe something?
  • Well to observe means to look at something. You
    will continue to see and hear the word observe,
    in this lesson.
  • Now a quick review! What does observe mean?
  • Everybody may answer!
  • Yes, observe means to look at something

OBSERVE
  • Look at the dominos shape
  • Is the shape of the domino a circle, a
    rectangle, or a triangle?
  • Yes, it is a rectangle! VERY GOOD!

OBSERVE
  • What colors do you see on the domino?
  • Black?
  • Blue?
  • Red?
  • White?
  • Yes, the domino is black and white?

DOTS
  • Look at the domino!
  • Now, it is time to count the white dots, on the
    domino!
  • First, we will count the dots that are on the
    top part/half of the domino?
  • Then, we will count the dots that are on the
    bottom part/half of the domino?

THE TOP HALF OF THE DOMINO
  • Now, when I point to the top part/half of the
    domino, I want you to start counting the dots.
  • (Everyone Together) 1,2
  • There are 2 dots on the top part, of the domino.

THE BOTTOM HALF OF THE DOMINO
  • Now, when I point to the bottom part/half of the
    domino, I want you to start counting the dots.
  • (Everyone Together) 1
  • There is 1 dot on the bottom part, of the domino.

HOW MANY IN ALL?
  • Now, lets count all of the dots that you see on
    both parts of the domino.
  • Top and Bottom (Altogether, Lets Count)
  • 1,2,3 Excellent!

ADDITION SENTENCE
  • Now, class please take out your math journals.
    It is time to write an addition sentence for the
    dots we just counted.
  • 1. Look at the screen and write down the number
    of dots you see on the top part of the domino.
  • 2. Look at the screen and write down the number
    of dots you see on the bottom part of the domino.
  • 3. Look at the screen and write down the number
    of dots you see in all, on both parts of the
    domino.

    sentence, on the board.

PAIRED ASSIGNMENT
  • Boys and girls, now you will make your own
    domino.
  • First, hold the index card the long way.
    (vertically)
  • Next, draw 3 dots on the top part of the domino.
  • Then, draw 2 dots on the bottom part of the
    domino.
  • Last, count how many dots do you have in all?

INDEPENDENT ASSIGNMENT
  • Now you will write 2 addition sentences for the
    domino you made.
  • First, you will use numbers
  • (325)
  • Then, you will use words
  • (Three Two Five)
  • Boys and girls, When you are finished, check
    your work. Then let your partner check your
    work. Do you and your partner have the same
    answers?
