Tuning Masters degrees

• Need to build on use information on Masters
  degrees
• Produce database based on questionnaire replies
• Employ someone to do this
• Put list of Masters courses on web
• Develop update listing
• Use this to encourage Joint Double degrees

EuroBachelor

• European quality mark for Physics degrees
• quality means physics content
• Normal quality assurance/accreditation system
  (where it exists) is responsible for other issues
• Not all degrees at a physics department need to
  be accredited, if they have lower physics content
• Proposal based on work already done for the
  Chemistry EuroBachelor

Reasons for EuroBachelor

• Aids
• student mobility between Bachelor Master
• employment of graduates outside own country
• wider recognition of degrees from smaller
  countries and/or universities
• recognition of degree quality within the
  university

What does it contain?

• Rules are flexible and not overly prescriptive
• Uses ECTS credit system for course units
• Based on core content competences identified by
  EUPEN Tuning Physics group
• 180-240 credit Bachelor degree includes
• Minimum 90 credits from core physics
  mathematics (including some experimental work)
• Minimum 150 credits in physics, mathematics
  related courses

How to implement it?

• Under auspices of European Physical Society
• Needs approval and support as indicated in EPS
  position paper
• Proposed by STEPS by EUPEN (?)
• Supported by Tuning Physics and using their
  identified competences learning outcomes

• Working group membership
• Members of WG1 4, other volunteers?
• Development of formal proposal
• For STEPS meeting 11/1/2007
• Application for funding (by 1/4/2007)
• Need legal entity to make application
