Early Life

• Born in 12 A.D.
• His original name was Gaius Caesar Germanicus.
• Nick-named Caligula which is Latin for little
  boots.
• Father a famous military general.
• When his parents died, adopted by emperor
  Tiberius.

Rise To Power

• After his Uncle died he was in a race with his
  stepbrother to be emperor.
• They decided to make him emperor because his
  stepbrother was still too young.
• As soon as Caligula obtained the powe,r he killed
  stepbrother so he would be emperor till he died.

Caligula The Crazy and Destructive

• Famous for being destructive and crazy.
• Had a horse that he treated better then a person.
  
• Cruel to Jewish people.
• Went with the army to Gaul to pick up sea shells

Incitatus

• Incitatus was Caligulas horse whom he loved.
• The horse had a marble stable and an ivory stall.
• He also wore a jeweled collar.
• The horse owned a house fully furnished with
  slaves.
• He was made a consul member by Caligula.

Caligula And the Army

• Caligula was traveling with the army to conquer
  more of Britain.
• When he got to Gaul he ordered them to go north
  to the sea.
• Then told the Army to pick up sea shells
• By this he claimed he had conquered the sea.

Jews And Caligula

• Caligula hated Jews.
• He hated them for not putting a statue up of him
  in their temple.
• Caligula killed many innocent Jews.

Caligula's Death I

• The Roman people couldnt take any more of
  Caligula.
• Spent money on foolish things.
• Killed innocent people.
• Tired the army by doing worth less things and not
  expanding the empire.
• He was destroying the empire and the people of
  Rome wanted him out.
• Who would do It?

Caligula's Death II

• Caligula was at his house one night alone with
  the guards.
• A tribune guard by the name of Cassius Chaerea
  stabbed him.
• Then killed Caligulas wives and daughter.
• Cassius Chaerea was caught and killed.

Caligula Gone

• As the life of Caligula ended, so did the dying
  of Rome and got back to its normal mentality.
• Even thought Caligula only ruled for four years,
  he lost a lot of money for Rome.
• Rome never did again have an emperor as crazy and
  destructive as Caligula.
• Lived from 12 CE to 41 CE.
• Was 29 when he died.
