Title: Life Cycle of a Snake
1Life Cycle of a Snake
2Snake Mating Information
When it comes to the life cycles and behavioral
patterns of snakes vary regionally in response to
environmental conditions. Snakes in tropical
regions mate throughout the year, but can vary on
the species. Snakes in colder regions mate either
in the fall before hibernation or in early
spring. Females signal their readiness for
mating by producing pheromones, chemicals with a
smell that attracts adult males of the same
species. Females leave behind pheromones on the
ground as they move about, and males follow the
pheromone trail to its source.
3Life Cycle
- Snakes mate to have babies. Some give birth to
live babies and some lay eggs. The eggs that
snakes lay are not like bird eggs they are like
soft leather. The baby snake breaks out of the
egg using a special egg tooth. Once they break
out of the egg they loose that tooth. After they
are born they must eat to grow. When a snake
grows up it starts shedding their skin by rubbing
up against rocks and other hard places. Once the
skin is loose, they crawl out of the old layer.
