What Happened to This Colony?

• British warships approached New
  Amsterdam/ New Netherlands harbor. The leader,
  Peter Stuyvesant, understood that the British had
  more power, but he was prepared to die defending
  his city. The people of New Amsterdam refused to
  fight, so he was forced to surrender his colony
  to the English.

  first group of Dutch settlers to colonize the New
  Netherlands, a region that would later become the
  state of New York.

  His attacks could have caused Indian retaliation

• The settlements of New Netherlands were
  given to the English Duke of York, who had
