Re-organisation of SafeWork SA Team Structure

• Previous Structure
• Mining and Major Hazard Facilities were in the
  Dangerous Substances Team reporting to the
  Manager DS Team
• New Structure
• Mining and Major Hazard Facilities is now a
  separate team reporting to the Strategic
  Interventions Group Director
• This reflects SafeWork SAs response to the
  burgeoning minerals industry in SA and pending
  legislation relating to MHFs

  resources we need to take a well defined
  strategic approach to our regulatory tasks.

• Repeated follow-on between agencies at sites

  other agencies to eliminate duplication

Events in Recent Times

• Our industries have shown marked improvements
• The improvements have begun to plateau
• We now measure MTIs and near misses as we have
  significantly reduced our LTIFRs
• We are now trying to change fundamental human
  behaviours
• Major loss incidents do not relate to LTIFR
• NASA lowest LTIFR in USA
• BP Texas City lowest LTIFR in oil refining
  business
• The job is not getting any easier
• Australia is no different to any other country or
  region
• We must be ever vigilant and think outside the box
