What Are Magnet Programs/Schools?

• Magnet programs/schools are schools of choice
  that offer unique courses of study focusing on
  students special interests, talents, and
  abilities. As part of the public school system,
  magnet programs/schools are provided at no cost
  to eligible students. A variety of magnet
  programs/schools are available to students under
  the following six themes of study
• Careers Professions
• Communications Humanities
• International Education
• Mathematics, Science Technology
• MontessoriVisual and Performing Arts
• Available for elementary students only

Who Is Eligible to Attend a Magnet
Program/School?

• Application to magnet programs/schools is open to
  all school age children who either attend or are
  eligible to attend a Miami-Dade County Public
  School.

Why Should My Child Attend a Magnet
Program/Schools?

• Magnet programs/schools offer enhanced
  educational opportunities for students. The six
  different magnet themes provide a range of
  choices designed to meet a variety of student
  interests. The goals of magnet programs/schools
  are to provide an excellent educational
  opportunity for students and to facilitate
  multicultural collaboration and cooperation.

When Do I Apply for Admission to a Magnet
Program/School?

• Applications for magnet programs are accepted
  October 1 through the last day of January
  (January 15th for New World School of the Arts).
  Applications received after this period will be
  considered for the next school year.

How Do I Apply for Admission to a Magnet Program?

• Generally, participation in magnet programs is
  based on the students interest in one or more of
  the six themes of study. Parents interested in
  enrolling their child/children should call the
  schools magnet lead teacher or magnet secretary
  to discuss admission requirements and to request
  an application. A tour of the magnet program may
  also be arranged at this time.

Where Do I Apply for Admission to a Magnet
Program/School?

• Applications are obtained and accepted at the
  school where the magnet program/school is
  located. Call the magnet lead teacher or magnet
  secretary for an application.

Is Transportation Provided to Magnet Programs?

• According to School Board Rule, limited
  transportation is available for many students
  based on transportation service zones. The magnet
  lead teacher or magnet secretary can assist you
  in determining if your child is eligible for
  transportation.
