Title: Gridenabling UTB cluster

Grid-enabling UTB cluster

2
UTB Linux Cluster Lobizon
  • Lobizon is 96-node linux cluster
  • The master (Lobizon) is connected to the
internet through a firewall. The 96 nodes
    communicate with the master.
  • PI III (812 mhz), Red-Hat 7.1 linux.
  • Plan to upgrade to 128 nodes in the near
    future.
  • Research in LIGO data analysis (LDAS/LAL),
    grid computing (GriPhyN/iVDGL VDT), and
    numerical relativity (CACTUS).
  • UTB becoming a LIGO Tier 2 Center (I2,
    system admin).
  • UTB participating in a iVDGL/LIGO testbed
with UWM, Caltech, MIT and PSU.
  • Currently administered by 2 undergraduate
students, Jose Zamora and Sean Morris. Soon
helped by a graduate student, Santiago Peña.

Status of the VDT installation on Lobizon
  • Jose Zamora and Sean Morris have been recently
working on installing the VDT on Lobizon with the
    help of Scott Koranda
  • VDT-1.0 server and developer packages on the
    master/server.
  • VDT-1.0 client package on all nodes.
  • The pacman seemed to be working pretty well with
inactive firewall (no errors), and the local
    installation is being successfully tested!
  • Step-by-step procedure on the VDT web site are
OK, however it would very helpful to have a quick
reference manual, and a readme. Installation
manuals for each single packages may be too
    dispersive.
  • It would be also very useful to have specific
examples of configuration files and some test
    programs on the web site.
  • We used Python 1.5.2, but it would helpful to
have the libraries for Python 2.2. on the VDT web
    site.

4
Using the VDT for Education and Outreach
  • We are now planning to write a detailed report to
    the VDT team.
  • We hope to help the other Tier 3 Centers with the
    VDT installation.
  • However, for E/O purposes we would need a simpler
version of the VDT, for small clusters
  • Step-by-step procedure and quick reference
    manual.
  • Examples of working configurations.
  • Test Programs.
  • Schools and teachers use mostly Windows. What do
    we do here?
  • iGOC group at Indiana U. propose to employ one or
two REUs to work on a simple version of the VDT.
  • This and more will be discussed in the E/O
    session.
