Let us analyze the parable
The "virgins" represent those in the kingdom, or
the church.
The coming of the bridegroom represents the
Second Coming of Christ.
The "lamps" represent the faith of Christians.
The "extra oil" symbolizes good works that
accompany our faith.

Christians are like the virgins awaiting the
bridegroom.
Some are wise.
Growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord.

For them, the coming of the Lord will be a
blessing! 2 Pet. 110-11

Christians are like the virgins awaiting the
bridegroom.
Some are foolish
They know the Lord is coming, but are not
prepared
They may even be like the evil servant.
Matt. 2448-49
Jesus has warned what will happen to such evil
servants. Matt. 2450-51

- Being prepared is the whole point of the
parable.
The main message is quite clear, as evident from
Jesus' comments leading up to this parable. Matt.
2442-46
Jesus' comment at the end of the parable itself.

This message is repeated later on in the New
Testament.

- We must be prepared because no one can do it

Character and obedience are not transferable.
One cannot be saved by association.

coming of Christ.
Christs second coming is a fact.
Acts 19-11 2 Thess. 17-9
The second coming will reveal our true character.
In the church we may all appear to be alike, but
when Christ comes again we will see those who are
not prepared.
