41. Purpose The purpose of this handbook is to
be a quick reference for Brigade Automations
personnel. This handbook will cover many
automations tasks used throughout the 89th MP
BDE. This is only meant to be used as a guide
and not a substitute for training. This
handbook may not cover all situations. If you
encounter a situation not covered in this
handbook please contact the S-6 NCOIC or the
Automations NCO for further Assistance.
Information herein is suitable for general
release.

7- 4. Setting Up A User Profile
- A. Internet
- Right click on Internet Explorer icon and select
properties - Click on the connections tab
- Click on the LAN Settings button at the bottom of
the screen - Check the box to use a proxy server then click
the Advanced button - In the first line enter n3cdoimproxy.hood.army.mil
enter 80 for the port - In the second line enter n3cdoimproxy.hood.army.mi
l enter 443 for the port - Enter the following in the Exceptions box at the
bottom of the screen pclerk.hood.army.mil150.113
..150.114...hood.army.mil - (enter exactly as above with no spaces)
- Click OK until you exit all of the prompts
8- B. Email
- Double-click on Microsoft Outlook icon
- When the prompt appears select Exchange Server
and click next - Enter in n3cdoimmail60m for the exchange server
and click next - When asked if you travel with this computer
select NO and click next - Click Finish
- Setting Up Personal Folders
- Right-click on the Outlook icon and select
properties - Click on the Add Button and then select Personal
Folders .pst - Name the file with the users username
- Click OK on the next prompt
- Click OK to close the Properties dialogue
9- C. User Permissions
- Open up the Control Panel
- Open up Users and Passwords
- Click on Add
- Enter the Users username in the first field and
HOOD for the second field - Click next and selelct Standard User and then
click OK and OK again - Close Control Panel
10- 5. Installing Printers
- A. Local Printer
- Must be logged in as administrator or have
administrator rights - Open up the Printers folder (Start, Settings,
Printers) - Click on Add Printer
- Select Local Printer and check to have it detect
plug and play printer click NEXT - At the next screen click NEXT
- If asked for drivers insert drivers CD and then
click Have Disk - At the prompt, click next and navigate to CD and
find drivers (usually something like
Drivers/English/Windows 2000/PCL6 the file will
be something.inf) and click next - When asked if you want to use this default
printer select yes and click next - When asked if you want to print a test page
select YES - Click FINISH and then click OK to accept the test
page -
11- B. Shared Printer
- Right-click on Network My Network Places and
select Find Computer - Enter the computer name of the computer that the
printer is physically connected to - Double-click the computer in the search results
- Double-click the printer
- Click OK
- Once the printer is installed it will display the
printer spool - Select Printer the Properties
- Click on the Print Test Page button at the bottom
of the screen to print a test page
12- C. Network Printer
- Open up the printers Folder (Start, Settings,
Printers) - Click on Add Printer
- Select Local printer and remove the check mark to
detect plug and play printers and click NEXT - Click on Create New Port and select Standard
TCP/IP port from the drop down list and click
NEXT - Enter IP Address for the printer into the first
field and click NEXT - If you are installing the S3 Ricoh select Generic
Ricoh Network Card from the drop down list, if
you are not installing the S3 printer proceed to
the next step - Click on Have Disk and Insert the CD into the
CD-ROM - Click BROWSE and navigate to the CD and find the
appropriate drivers - Click OK

13- 6. Setting Up A new Computer System/Upgrade
- A. Preparing for Upgrade
- If you are upgrading then you need to coordinate
with the users of the computer to save their
files and information from the computer - Once you determine the files to be saved navigate
to the Brigade File Server (n89mpsvr1) and create
a folder with the persons name that the files
belong to and transfer the files to the server - Make sure when you transfer files you search for
any Personal Folders Files and transfer them
(using windows search function search for.pst)
14- B. Installing Windows 2000
- Insert CD and turn on computer, when prompted to
boot to CD press any key - Follow the steps to install Windows 2000
- When asked where to install Windows 2000 follow
the directions to delete all partitions - Follow directions to create a partition
- When asked make sure you format the new partition
using NTFS file system - Proceed to installing Windows 2000
- When asked for a computer name make sure you give
it a relevant name (ie. N89mps3ops or n89mps60ic) - When asked if this computer is a member of a
domain enter HOOD and then enter your network
username and password to join the computer to the
domain - After Windows 2000 is installed and restarts do
not enter any users and select All Users Must
Enter a Username and Password to log on
15- C. Joining the Domain
- If you havent already joined the domain then
right-click on My Computer and select properties - Click on the Computer Name Tab and click on the
Change button - Check the bullet next to This computer is a
member of the following domain and then enter
HOOD - Click OK, when prompted enter your network
username and password - When you get the welcome message click OK and
then click OK on the properties box - When asked if you want to restart select YES
16- D. Installing Associated Software
- 1. The following sofware must me installed on
all computers - - Microsoft Office
- - Norton Antivirus
- - Adobe Acrobat Reader
- - Winzip
- - FormFlow with Forms
- - Windows Service Pack 2
- - Microsoft Service Pack 1
- - Microsoft Office Service Pack 2
- - Internet Explorer 6
- - Windows Media Player 9
- When installing Office select custom and then
click next. When you get the tree list of all
the components click on the top item and select
run all from my computer. - After installing Norton Antivirus perform a
live update (you must first have internet
explorer setup with the proxy server settings). - Copy the entire Forms folder from the
FormFlow disk into the FormFlow folder on the C
Drive
17- E. Windows Update
- After installing all software you must perform a
windows update - Click on start and then click Windows Update
- Click OK on any prompts
- Click the ling to Scan for Updates
- Install all critical updates except Service Pack
4 (DO NOT INSTALL SERVICE PACK 4) - Check recommended updates and if there is an
update with the word Jet in the Title install it - Install Windows Media Player 9
