Introduction

• Partnerships between faith organization and the
  health system, be it medical care or public
  health are not new
• Through faith-based structures faith groups and
  communities could receive health education,
  counseling, and a variety of support services
• To advance and promote health and well-being
• This work grows from the health tenets that exist
  within every faith tradition

• Healing Lodge Staff and volunteers are being
  trained on the correct procedures for Diabetes
  testing using the Cholestech LDX System
• SRMC personnel from the Diabetes Center are very
  helpful

• Diabetes training was conducted on 8 and 13
  January 2003.
• The Healing Lodge conducted its first SPNS
  community outreach for education and prevention
  on 14 January 2003

Diabetes Health Screen

• Diabetes, blood pressure
• and Cholesterol (HDL/LDL) checks
• SPNS outreach worker and SAMHSA worker taking
  care of the first client.
• Clients had to be 18 years and older

• Collaboration with Palmer Drug, SRMC Diabetes
  Center, HealthKeeperz, Robeson county Health
  Dept, Heart Quest
• Working together we are stronger than working
  separately

Drug education and awareness is part of our SPNS
and SAMHSA projects
