  • AN AUDIT OF ALL SLUMS WITHIN THE PROVINCE HAS
    BEEN DONE
  • MUNICIPALITIES HAD TO INDICATE WHETHER LAND IS
    AVAILABLE OR NOT TO IMPLEMENT THESE PROJECTS

CLEARANCE PROJECTS
  • COATSAL REGION WHICH INCLUDES ILEMBE DISTRICT,
    UGU DISTRICT EXCLUDING ETHEKWINI MUNICIPALITY
    IDENTIFIED 31 PROJECTS TO BE APPROVED TO DEAL
    WITH THE ISSUE OF SLUMS.
  • 4 PROJECTS ARE NOW COMPLETE.
  • 6 PROJECTS ARE ACTIVE PROJECTS

CLEARANCE PROJECTS
  • ETHEKWINI MUNICIPALITY72 SLUMS WERE IDENTIFIED
    FOR RELOCATIONS AND THE TOTAL NUMBER OF
    BENEFICARIES IS 26 500.
  • 17 HOUSING PROJECTS HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED TO
    ACCOMMODATE RELOCATIONS AND THE TOTAL NUMBER OF
    BENEFICIARIES TO BENEFIT IS 30 051
  • 48 UPGRADE PROJECTS WITH AN ELEMENT OF RELOCATION
    WERE IDENTIFIED.
  • THE TOTAL NUMBER OF UPGRADE PROJECTS WITH AN
    ELEMENT OF RELOCATION IS 50 000.

  • NORTHERN REGION WHICH INCLUDES UMZINYATHI
    DISTRICT, AMAJUBA DISTRICT, UMKHANYAKUDE

  • THIS INVOLVES AN URGENT RELOCATION OF HIGH RISK
    INFORMAL SETTLEMENTS.
  • THIS PROJECT WAS APPROVED ON 12 OCTOBER 2004 AND
    THE AGREEMENT WITH THE MUNICIPALITY WAS SIGNED ON
    12 NOVEMBER 2004.
  • THE PROJECT IS LOCATED 15 KMOF THE DURBAN CBD AND
    ADJACENT TO PHOENIX, SOUTHGATE WITH GLEN ANNIL,
    AVOCA BRICKWORKS AND PHOENIX INDUSTRIAL AREAS IN
    CLOSE PROXIMITY.
  • THE TOTAL NUMBER OF BENEFICIARIES FOR THIS
    PROJECT IS 2170
