Challenge

• Statistical service/unpredictable -
• Not always on (hardly ever!)
• Delay distribution long tailed
• Successful delivery/reception not defined
• But note SMS was succesful, sets a precedentwhy?
• Gift model - can we dream up similar?
• Need to think outside box
• Need to give power to users to develop apps!

Haggle Ad Hoc Google

• Web ! Hypermedia
• Original hypermedia vision was consistent
• Berners-Lee realized this was a misplaced goal
• WWW eschews consistency (and even reverse path
  links)
• Allows asynchronous, spider/robotgt
• Search Engine then gathers and provides -gt
• Centralised Indexing (and pagerank)

(Jons) Idea of Haggle was

• Decentralised search and index
• I.e. all nodes search all other nodes
  (recursively via neighbours) and index (think
  like a distance vector routing algorithm
  combined with a search engine - we dont need to
  search neighbours neighbour, as we get this info
  directly from immediate neighbour -gt
• But out of date and possibly inconsistent

Applications then built on this substrate

• Basically, if node data ( web pages) contains
• all public info about this node and
• all learned public data about other nodes
• All low and high level info (e.g. mac addresses,
  location if known, time learned, name, etc)
• Any app can be based on this
• I.e. not a tuple space
• free text

Realistically expectable results

• Need to control expectations!
• Need to be radical
• Contradiction -gt Propose dual track
• Simple internet/cell like apps (instant
  messenging/file share/content distrib.)
• WildCrazy ideas (viz equator) - need to give out
  open source release soon to let user base
  contribute apps - see -gt
