Purpose of the Group
  • To share a video training program and a previous
    groups studies and experiences generated in
    order to expedite getting fellow teachers
    familiar and comfortable with the Read Naturally
    program
  • To implement the Read Naturally program with
    students in a timely manner

Read Naturally
  • The Read Naturally program incorporates teacher
    modeling, repeated reading and progress
    monitoring.

Placement
  • Placement is the process of selecting reading
    materials and setting an initial goal for a
    student who is about to begin using Read Naturally

Teacher Modeling
  • Students read along while listening to a
    recording of a high-interest story

Repeated Reading
  • Students practice reading the story until they
    can read it at a predetermined goal rate

Progress Monitoring
  • Students graph the number of words read correctly
    (per minute) before practicing and then again
    after practicing
  • The graph provides proof of the students progress

Conclusion
  • Tools are now readily available and many students
    are currently using this program to improve their
    fluency skills
  • Organization of materials remains a key factor
    for the teacher
