1510/22/03 Dear Ms. Sowada, I am very happy that
the SERT team is trying to help save energy.
By being in the SERT, I have learned the
importance of recycling. Recycling saves energy
and reduces pollution. Plastic bottles, cans,
etc., should be recycled because they can be used
again. The reason why we should recycle things is
that when something is made, chemicals are used.
The waste chemicals are disposed into water
bodies. By that, chemicals are mixed with water
and mammals like fish that live in water die. The
reason to recycle paper is because paper is made
out of wood. Wood is a product of trees and if we
waste paper, trees are cut and the wildlife in
forests don't have their usual habitat. We should
use sunlight for light because we shouldn't waste
electricity. These are what I learned about
recycling. From Swathi Jayavel, 5th Grade Beall
Elementary School, Rockville MD
