  • The first few weeks of University can be very
    overwhelming for the majority of students.
  • The following slides will provide you with
    further information about University life to
    assist you with this transition.

Online Information
  • Web conferencing this is where you meet your
    lecturer and other students online at a set
    day/time for your class.
  • You will need good Internet access (broadband)
    and a headset (or microphone and speakers).
  • Your lecturer will email you information on how
    to access this.

OASIS Online Access to Student Information
Services
  • This is your individual portal to some of the
    support services that are provided to you as a
    Curtin student.
  • When you accept your offer of a place in a Curtin
    course, you also agree to access this portal on a
    very regular basis weekly at the very minimum.

Personal Details eStudent
  • Your OASIS portal will provide you with the
    details you have provided to the University such
    as address, contact numbers etc.
  • OASIS will allow you to enrol and withdraw online

E - Reserve
  • E-Reserve or Electronic Reserve is a collection
    of electronic documents available in full text
    via the Curtin Library Catalogue. E-Reserve items
    are generally journal articles, book chapters and
    lecture notes.
  • You can access E-Reserve using any computer that
    is connected to the Internet. The E-Reserve
    Frequently Asked Questions webpage provides more
    information on E-Reserve.

FLECS blackboard iLectures
  • Blackboard is a system that allows students to
    access learning materials, online discussions and
    unit content.
  • Some of your units may have an iLecture
    component which will require you to view a
    lecture on the web prior to coming to class.
  • These iLectures will be available through your
    OASIS portal.

  • As your enrolment is processed, these units will
    be linked through to the booklists for the units
    in which you are enrolled. You can then order
    online.
  • The booklists can be accessed through your OASIS
    account.

  • It is your responsibility to contact your
    lecturer if you experience any problems during
    your studies.
  • If you require extensions on assignments these
    need to be requested of your lecturers well
    before due dates.

Turnitin (www.turnitin.com)
  • Turnitin is a text matching system that compares
    your text against electronic text submitted to
    Turnitin.
  • Your lecturer will inform you if they are using
    Turnitin for their unit.
  • More information about Turnitin is located in
    your orientation pack.

SMARTthinking
  • Provides personalised support from a real tutor,
    available any time from any computer connected to
    the internet.
  • Tutor will provide assistance in such areas as
    understanding assignment topics, in how to
    construct an answer and in academic writing and
    referencing techniques.

Curtin A-Z Guide 2009 Student Guild
  • This guide provides details of many of the
    rights, responsibilities, rules and regulations
    etc
  • Becoming a Curtin Guild member is not compulsory.
    However, they do offer a range of services and
    benefits.
