4Community Learning Resource Centre Requirements
- To be big
- To be open and accessible to all students and
staff of GYC and to be available to adult
residents of the Parliamentary Wards of Cobholm
and Litchfield - To be completely DDA and SENDA compliant
- To be open for long opening hours
5It is an old 1970s building
- Design factors inherent in the building
- The structure is modular
- The roof is flat
- The corridor goes right through the middle of the
area - The windows are huge
6Where on the campus did we move to?
- The area of the campus which was designated for
the new CLRC were the old engineering workshops,
including metalworking and welding and motor
vehicle workshop. - The project included the building of a new
Engineering Technology Centre to house some of
these.
7The new tables are well spaced and shelves are
all at an accessible height
8Fire Regulations
- Because of Fire Regulations we could not change
the fact that the corridor goes right through the
middle of the area. This is not a good design
feature in any library as it can be so
disruptive. - We have been able to minimise the disruption of
through traffic to a certain extent but the onus
has been on the staff to keep policing the area.
9Comparison of the old and the new
