2
Lesson Objectives
  • Students will learn how to use a computer game
called Clean Up Your Grammar to practice their
grammar and then use Microsoft Word to write a
few sentences about their weekend and then a
creative short story about a magazine clipping.

3
Technology Used
  • Computers
  • Computer game called Clean Up Your Grammar
  • Microsoft Word
  • Projector to display how to use the game as well
    as Microsoft Word

4
Introducing the Learning ActivityDay One
  • I will tell the students that we are going to
play a game to practice their grammar skills.
They will already have knowledge about nouns and
verbs. Then I will tell them that once they are
done with the game they will be using Microsoft
Word to write a short story about their weekend.

5
Introducing the Learning ActivityDay Two
  • They will play the game again for review.
  • I will motivate the students by explaining that
once they have gotten 7 out of 10 answers correct
in the learning game they will be able to pick
their magazine clipping so they can start to
    write their story.
  • I will also explain that the stories will be
posted on a bulletin board once they are finished
so they will want to do well because it will be
displayed for their classmates to read.

6
Provide Information
  • Clean Up Your Grammar
  • http//teacher.scholastic.com/activities/adventure
    /grammar1.htm
  • I will show them how to play the game by playing
it myself and displaying it with a projector at
the front of the room so the students will
understand how to play the game.

7
Provide Information Cont.
  • I will show them how to use Microsoft Word using
a projector to display it at the front of the
    room.
  • Finally, I will show them a completed story I
have written so they will know what I am
    expecting them to accomplish.

8
Provide Practice
  • Play the game!
  • They will play the computer game to practice
    their grammar skills.
  • Write about their weekend activities
  • They will practice using Microsoft Word by
writing a couple of sentences about what they did
    over the weekend.

9
Provide Knowledge of Results
  • Verbal Feedback
  • I will provide verbal feedback to the students
about their practice efforts by walking around
the classroom while they are playing the game and
while they are writing about their weekend in
Microsoft Word. If they seem to understand what
they are doing I will tell them they are doing a
good job. If they seem to be struggling I will
answer any questions they may have or pair them
up with a student who has a better understanding
of the game/Microsoft Word than they do so they
can receive help from a peer.

10
Provide Knowledge of Results cont.
  • Written Feedback
  • I will provide written feedback on their papers
about their weekend by having them hand it in for
me to look over and comment on.
  • I will also provide written feedback about their
final stories written about their magazine
    clippings.

11
Review the Activity
  • The students will play the game at the beginning
of the second class so they can review the
    differences between nouns and verbs.
  • I will also ask the students questions about how
to use Microsoft Word to make sure they are not
    confused.

12
Methods of Assessment
  • I will assess whether or not the students
understand how to distinguish between verbs and
nouns by walking around the room and making sure
they are doing well with the computer game.

13
Methods of Assessment Cont.
  • I will assess whether or not the students
understand how to use Microsoft Word by having
them hand in their finished stories about the
magazine clippings so that I can look over them
and make sure they have done it correctly.
