5Elderhostel Institute Network
- Institute for Retired Professionals 1962
affiliated with New School for Social Research - 1988 30 (of 50) I.L.L.s (Institutes for
Learning in Retirement) formed a voluntary
association under the auspices of Elderhostel,
named Elderhostel Institute Network (EIN) - Goals of EIN
- Help establish new programs throughout the U.S.
- Provide resources to established institutes
- Develop an all-inclusive organization for I.L.L.s

- Sponsored by a college/university to ensure
academic integrity and exposure to the many
benefits of being on a college campus. - Encouraging older adults to take ownership of
their institute by joining as members and paying
dues to support it. - Encouraging volunteer member participation in
their institute and a sense of community among
the older adult members.

- Emphasis on active, productive aging.
- Confronting the negative stereotypes of aging.
