Optimization of Ship Lines
Content The propulsive power of a ship is most
often optimized for a given (design) draft. But a
ship often sails with many different drafts
during its life time. Many ships, in particular
container ships, also sail at different speeds
which add additional complexity to the entire
picture. Hence ideally, when considering the
propulsion, including the hull form, the whole
operating profile of the vessel should be taken
into account. In this project the fore part of
the ship lines must be considered. A procedure
must be established to optimize this part for a
given operational profile including variations in
draft and speed while keeping the main dimensions
constant. In the project, mainly theoretical
calculations are used, but as basis a ship is
selected for which model test results for several
conditional are available. The project will be
carried out in cooperation with FORCE Technology.
