4WHAT IS SPRInTA
- To address concerns about the support available
to students on assessment and the provision of
effective feedback. - The aim of the project is to support student
achievement by providing targeted and
personalised support for assessment. - It is hoped by the end of the Project students on
at least 15 Sports Science/Biological Science

self assessment exercises to improve their
understanding of assessment and of course
content. - All of these resources will be linked through the
myEssex student portal.

11SUMMATIVE EXAM RESULTS
- BS155 Average Summative Exam Result
- 2004 46.5 15.5
- 2005 71 19.7
- The 2005 results were significantly higher than
the 2004 results (plt0.001 t-test). - There was also a significant positive correlation
between the number of formative assessments a
student completed and their summative exam score
(plt0.01).
12POST EXAM SURVEY
- An optional survey was made available after the
summative exam. - 44 students completed the survey.
- Some of the results are as follows
13Online practice MCQs should be made available for
all 1st year modules
The questions are great and helpful and should
definitely be made available for other modules
14Using the practice MCQs left me feeling prepared
for the final exam
The practice questions were a good indicator of
how hard the final exam questions were going to
be (very!!)
15The practice MCQs were a useful revision tool
Made revision far less tedious
16BEYOND THE PILOT
- Introducing the practice MCQs to six further 1st
year modules. - Dissemination.
- Working on the other four assessment types.
