The remit of the group
  • To produce a set of core audit tools, which
relate to the processes used by most hospices.
  • Each tool is referenced to
  • The national minimum standards
  • The Standards for Better Health, 2005.
  • As far as possible, is referenced to the NICE
    guidelines, 2004.
  • Other, relevant statutory regulations and
    national guidelines.

5
The process of approval
  • Each tool is tested by up to five hospices
  • to highlight potential problems with individual
    questions and the audit tool.
  • Amend the audit tool based on the results of the
    pilot
  • Tool critically reviewed by an external
    accreditor
  • Submission to the IHRC Quality and Standards
    Group for approval.

6
Design of the audit tools
  • Enable hospices to systematically review their
    own processes
  • Use their existing documentation.
  • Not all hospices have identical processes
  • Option of using not applicable.
  • Use this with caution!
  • Is there a need to review hospice policy?

7
Following release
  • The audit tools is reviewed on an ongoing basis.
  • Support is available via Help the Hospices
    website.

8
Database support
  • An onerous aspect of any audit is the collation
    of the results.
  • To make this task as efficient as possible, each
tool is accompanied by a series of excel
    spreadsheets,
  • Formulae are already incorporated
  • Explicit instructions on how to complete the
    spreadsheets
  • Instructions on how to make the best use of the
spreadsheets once they have been completed.
