Length and Level
  • Eight minutes talk, three minutes questions
  • Stop watch
  • No overrunning time
  • Use rehearse timing feature to practise
  • Pitch the talk at the level of the other
    students.
  • Assume the audience has prior knowledge in
    introductory lectures
  • dont repeat basics of cellular radio

Before your talk
  • Find out and understand enough about your talk
  • Use Powerpoint to prepare your slides
  • At least one week before talk
  • make appointment to see me with paper copy of
    slides
  • Before 4pm on day before presentation email
    presentation to G.Alexander_at_latrobe.edu.au
  • 30 deduction for late submission
  • may not be allowed to present

Time of talks
  • Provisional allocation of groups (i.e. which time
    slot) on April 16
  • see me immediately if there is a problem
  • Precise allocation of times later
  • No changes to allocated time except with medical
    certificate/special consideration

  • 30/4 individual talks begin
  • 24/5 individual talks end
  • 28/5 reports due for EMT students
  • 31/5 feedback

Presentation
  • Your Powerpoint file will be loaded on my laptop
    before the presentation time
  • Cant use own laptop
  • As far as possible, prepare your diagrams from
    scratch.

Access to labs/problem solving sessions
  • Lab sessions will be arranged as required -
    timings to be discussed and agreed.
  • In general, I will be available to answer
    questions/help with assignments. Refer Georges
    timetable on website.
  • Best to email or call to arrange a specific time.

  • Half of assessment for technical content
  • Half for presentation

General Presentation Tips
  • Know your audience and why they are there.
  • What are your objectives in making this
    presentation?
  • Organise and plan your presentation accordingly.
  • Consider structure intro, what you will be
    presenting, main presentation, summary/conclusion.
  • Try to build rapport with your audience relax,
    maintain good eye contact.
  • Overheads should be clear.
  • Take time to plan your space prior to
    presenting.
  • Speak clearly to each overhead.
  • Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse.
