• Thank you for participating in the Shell Global
  Fuel Economy Study

What is the Global Fuel Economy Study?

• We believe it is possible for motorists all
  around the world to use 10 less fuel, without
  reducing how much they drive
• To prove it, we have launched the Shell Global
  Fuel Economy Study, involving motorists from all
  over the world
• You will be part of this global study, joining
  fleet drivers from companies like Guinness in
  Malaysia, Novartis in the Philippines and Hewlett
  Packard in Germany

What is the Global Fuel Economy Study?

• Basically, we want to measure the fuel savings
  that drivers can achieve when equipped with the
  right knowledge
• Well provide you with fuel economy training then
  monitor your fuel use over a period of 4 weeks
• We want to help you learn how to drive more fuel
  efficiently, get you back to real life and then
  record the outcome

What do you need to do?

• Watch the Fuel Stretch Drivers Guide video,
  coming up in a moment
• Fill up at exactly the same place on the first
  and last day of the trial that means using the
  same pump, facing the same direction at the same
  Shell petrol station
• Throughout the trial, fill up using the Fuel
  Stretch Filling Technique, coming up in a moment.
  Be sure to provide your odometer reading when
  using your Shell Card this is how we will
  monitor your fuel consumption.
• Throughout the trial, use only Shell Unleaded 91
  petrol
• Throughout the trial, do your best to incorporate
  the Fuel Stretch Driving Tips into your way of
  driving

How will I benefit?

• Youll gain access to fuel economy training that
  you can use at home and share with your family
  and friends
• Youll receive a 50 personal fuel voucher at the
  end of the trial in recognition of your
  participation, plus goodies along the way
• This is a global study to see if we can help you
  improve your fuel economy, so please drive as
  much as you normally would.

When is the trial?

• You need to complete this training by Friday 24
  August
• The first day of the trial is Monday 27 August
• The last day of the trial is Friday 21 September

Lets get started!

• First things first, we need to ensure that all
  participants around the world are using the same
  technique when filling up their cars throughout
  the trial
• Most people stop filling when they reach the
  first automatic cut-off point it might come as
  a surprise, but its possible to fit up to 2
  litres more of petrol into your tank using the
  following technique
• This will ensure your petrol tank is genuinely
  FULL and ready for monitoring!
• Remember Only use Shell Unleaded 91 throughout
  the trial period

The Fuel Stretch Filling Technique

• REMEMBER the following because they need to be
  exactly the same for the first and last fill-up
• The exact Shell station
• The exact pump you use
• The exact way your vehicle is facing
• Next, insert the nozzle, fill-up to the first
  automatic cut-off
• WAIT 10 SECONDS (the fuel level will fall)
• Withdraw the nozzle partially, and then continue
  trickling the fuel until the automatic cut-off
  clicks again
• WAIT 10 SECONDS (the fuel level will fall)
• Fill-up again
• Repeat the Fill and wait 10 seconds 5 TIMES IN
  TOTAL

  year set a Guinness World Record for fuel
  efficiency
• John Helen drove 27,000km around the world on
  24 tanks of Shell fuel economy formula and using
  fuel-saving driving practices
