Title: The Field is White
1The Field is White
21828- Two years before the organization of the
Church
- Doctrine and Covenants 1050-54
- 50 And thus they (Book of Mormon Prophets) did
leave a blessing upon this land in their prayers,
that whosoever should believe in this gospel in
this land might have eternal life - 52 And now, behold, according to their faith in
their prayers will I bring this part of my gospel
to the knowledge of my people. Behold, I do not
bring it to destroy that which they have
received, but to build it up. - 53 And for this cause have I said If this
generation harden not their hearts, I will
establish my church among them. - 54 Now I do not say this to destroy my church,
but I say this to build up my church
3Ezra Taft Benson
- God, the Father of us all, uses the
men of the earth,
especially good men, to accomplish his purposes.
It has been true in the past, it is true today,
it will be true in the future. (April
Conference, 1972) - He then quotes Elder Orson F. Whitney as follows
4Elder Whitney
- Perhaps the Lord needs good men on the
outside of His Church to help it along. They
are among its auxiliaries, and can do more
good for the cause where the Lord has placed
them, than anywhere else. - Hence, some are drawn into the fold and receive a
testimony of the truth while others remain
unconvertedthe beauties and glories of the
gospel being veiled temporarily from their view,
for a wise purpose. The Lord will open their eyes
in His own due time. - God is using more than one people for the
accomplishment of His great and marvelous work.
The Latter-day Saints cannot do it all. It is too
vast, too arduous for any on peopleWe have no
quarrel with Gentiles. They are our partners in a
certain sense.
5Elder M. Russell Ballard
- Our message is one of special love and concern
for the eternal welfare of all men and women,
regardless of religious belief, race, or
nationality, knowing that we are truly brothers
and sisters - That is our doctrine, a doctrine of inclusion.
That is what we believeOf all people on the
earth, we should be the most loving, the kindest,
and the most tolerant because of that doctrine.
(Oct. Conference, 2001)

Restored Christian Knowledge
Mainstream Christian Knowledge
Do we differ from others who believe in the Lord
Jesus Christ? No, only in believing more!
Brigham Young (JD 1356)
7Bro. Robert Millet
- Bob, you folks believe you have to do so
many things to be saved! - Like what? I asked.
- Well, he continued, lets just take baptism,
for example. You believe that baptism is what
saves you. - No, we dont, I responded.
- Yes, you do, he followed up. you believe
baptism is essential for entrance into the
celestial kingdom. - Yes, I said, while baptism or other ordinances
are necessary as channels of divine power and
grace, they are not things that save us. Jesus
saves us! - (Religious Educator, Vol. 4, No 1, 2003)
8JST Isaiah 29
- 24 Wherefore, when thou hast read the words which
I have commanded thee, and obtained the witnesses
which I have promised unto thee, then shalt thou
seal up the book again, and hide it up unto me, - 26 And again it shall come to pass, that the Lord
shall say unto him that shall read the words that
shall be delivered him, - Forasmuch as this people draw near unto me with
their mouth, and with their lips do honor me, but
have removed their hearts far from me, and their
fear toward me is taught by the precepts of men, - therefore I will proceed to do a marvelous work
among this people yea, a marvelous work and a
wonder for the wisdom of their wise and learned
shall perish
9The Work
Isaiah 29 26 I will proceed to do a marvelous
work among this people yea, a marvelous work and
a wonder
DC 41 Now behold, a marvelous work is about to
come forth among the children of men.
102 Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of
God, see that ye serve him with all your heart,
might, mind and strength, that ye may stand
blameless before God at the last day
- Might (ko'-akh)
- -Power of God
- Strength (own)
- -Vigor, energy, stamina
- Blameless?
11President Harold B. Lee
- no man ever puts out his hand to help another
without gaining for himself the right to a
merited salvation because of his willingness to
help others. - Now, keep in mind that all of us are our Father's
children, whether presently members of the Church
or not. It is these others of our Father's
children about whom we must be much
concerned. They are just as dear to Him
as those who are presently members of the
Church. - (Harold B. Lee, The Teachings of Harold B.
Lee, edited by Clyde J. Williams, p.594)

4 For behold the field is white already to
harvest and lo, he that thrusteth in his sickle
with his might, the same layeth up in store that
he perisheth not, but bringeth salvation to his
soul
3 Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God ye
are called to the work
2 Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of
God, see that ye serve him with all your heart,
might, mind and strength, that ye may stand
blameless before God at the last day
