Title: Warmup:

1
Warm-up
  • What would a distance vs. time graph for a
    constant speed look like?
  • (Make up some data, then plot the data)

Distance Time
Distance (m)
Time (s)
2
Linear Motion Worksheet
  • Any Questions?
  • Turn em in

3
Kinematics 1 Lab
  • You will each create a Rough Draft of every lab
    we work on in class.
  • All Rough Drafts must be hand-written by you.
  • You cant have one person in your group type up a
rough draft and make copies for all the group
    members.

4
Kinematics 1 Lab
  • Purpose Question How will changing the incline
angle of a ramp affect the speed that a ball
rolls on a flat track at the bottom of the ramp?
  • (First things firstwrite a background paragraph
    about the ball and ramp.)

5
Kinematics 1 Lab
  • Hypothesis (If/then/because format)
  • Procedure and Materials list variables
materials, create a step-by-step method, and draw
a picture of your testing apparatus.
  • Make sure to tell me how youll control all other
variables other than the MV and the RV.
  • Data Table prepare your data table before you
    begin testing

6
Angle of Ramp __________
Distance (m) .45 .90 1.35 1.80
Time Trial 1 (s) Trial 2 (s) Trial 3 (s)
Avg. Time Speed
  • You will need three of these (one for each angle
    you choose)
  • Choose 3 low angles that are at least 10 apart
    from one another.

7
Kinematics 1 Lab
  • Assign jobs to the people in your group.
  • Youll need a timer who knows how to take
accurate split times on the stopwatch
  • Before you begin to collect any data, do a couple
    of practice runs.
  • Choose 3 low ramp angles that are at least 10
    apart from each other.
  • Begin Data Collection when youre ready
  • Note any strange or inconsistent results beside
the data table and describe what happened

8
Your Homework
  • By any method you choose, determine your average
speeds of walking, skipping, and running. For
    each type of motion, include
  • The method you used (brief paragraph)
  • The data you collected
  • The calculations you performed
