  • For this assignment you will be required to work
    partly as a group and partly as an individual
  • Engineer and publish a travel information website
    for a (fictitious) worldwide tour company.
  • Your specification is as follows..

Group work
  • You should work as a team to design a corporate
    image for the company and engineer the overall
    structure and general pages of the website.
  • These should include
  • Company homepage
  • Menu with links to each of the separate tourist
    locations
  • Contact details
  • Any other pages you feel appropriate for the
    "general" area of the website

Group work
  • Your group work should also include the
    development of a company stylesheet that you will
    all use within your individual tourism pages.
  • Your group should integrate the individual
    websites produced and publish the overall company
    website on either the CAT account for one of the
    group members or via an Internet Service Provider
    (ISP) of your choice.
  • Your group should provide documentation for your
    website

Individual work
  • Each member of the group should choose a travel
    destination of their choice (different from other
    members of the group).
  • Produce your own tourism pages for this
    destination.
  • These pages will be integrated into the company
    website described above so the website should
    keep within the corporate image and structure of
    the company (as agreed and produced above).

Individual work
  • The details of this individual component of the
    website are left to your own choice and
    imagination but you should remember that
  • the purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate
    your knowledge and ability to use appropriate web
    engineering tools, so while some marks will be
    awarded for website content, the majority of
    marks will be awarded for appropriate use of the
    tools used.

  • Frames
  • Forms
  • JavaScript
  • Stylesheets
  • Graphical images and image maps
  • Cookies
  • Advanced technologies (e.g. XML)

Individual work
  • You are free to use HTML/JavaScript generating
    tools (e.g. Dreamweaver) but you must document
    the files produced (using comments) to show that
    you understand the code generated.
  • Your website is expected to operate in either or
    both of Netscape Communicator 4.7 and/or Internet
    Explorer 5. If areas of your website use
    tools/technologies that are specific to only one
    of these browsers (e.g. data binding) then this
    should be made clear to the user.

Formation of Groups
  • You are allowed to form your own groups provided
    one member emails Giles Oatley (giles.oatley_at_sunde
    rland.ac.uk) a list of group members by
  • 5pm on Wednesday 27th November 2002.
  • Groups should contain 4 or 5 people.
  • Any students who have not formed a group by this
    time will be allocated to a group.

Plagiarism
  • Any work which is plagiarised will not be

Submission
  •  You should submit the following
  • The URL of the website produced.
  • A floppy disk (or CDROM) containing all of the
    files produced for the website.
  • A written report describing the structure of the
    website and indicating the author of each
    individual component.
