Theory X

• Assumes that employees are naturally lazy and
  will do as little work as possible
• This is why the employees need to be threatened,
  closely supervised and controlled
• Managers that use Theory X have a pessimistic
  attitude toward their workers and believe that it
  is their responsibility to get the employees to
  do their work

• Theory X says that the average employee tends to
  follow, not lead, does not care about organized
  goals, and is not intelligent
• Theory X is used by the US Postal Service

• Business management theory that assumes people
  find satisfaction in their work
• Theory Y managers believe that people will work
  better and be more productive in the right
  environment
• Managers believe that work can be natural like
  play or rest

  and will come up with good ideas if they are told
  to.
• Theory Y managers give their employees more
  freedom than x, and gives employees flexibility
  make mistakes
