6Simulated Tactile Disability
Multiple pairs of gloves with different
combinations of the fingers taped together are
used to simulate a tactile disability.
7Students are asked to write their name while
wearing the glove and compare it to their
everyday handwriting.
8Physical Disability
Students are asked to walk about the classroom
with the sponges between their knees.
Difficulties occur because the walking speed is
significantly slowed.
Hardened sponges are placed between the knees to
simulate a physical disability.
9Simulated Visual Impairment
Glasses with differing lens strengths and some
with tape or paint obstructing vision are used to
simulate a visual impairment.
10Reading becomes a challenge.
Blindfolds are also used to simulate a visual
impairment. Students escort one another around
the room relying only on verbal cues.
