Pocket Gphone 3.0
Pocket Gphone allows Microsoft PocketPC OS based
devices for feature rich voice communications.
Voice calling, voice chat and voice messaging can
be added to networked PocketPC solutions as
either a stand-alone voice application, or as a
voice complement to data applications with
PocketGphone from VLI. With the proliferation of
802.11 wireless data networks, 802.11 enabled
PocketPC devices with Pocket Gphone can conduct
voice conversations in the enterprise, home, or
public hot spots. PocketGphone brings full
duplex SIP compliant VoIP to resource-constrained,
IP based mobile consumer electronics devices
based on PocketPC and other handheld operating
systems. PocketGphone has very low software
latency, requires minimal bandwidth and supports
NAT environments.
PocketGphone Features Market Benefits
Low software latency of 50 ms Voice quality better than cellular in LAN, WAN environments
Requires only 32 kbps bandwidth (with GSM6.10 codec) High quality communications in constrained networks Minimal network impact
Full duplex voice Two way calling to match POTS, cellular experience
SIP compliant Works with SIP gateways to PSTN
Peer to Peer topology Toll bypass direct client to client connections Low network impact
Works on most PocketPCs Downloadable to off-the-shelf devices
NAT support Can use in dynamic IP environments
GSM 6.10, G.711, G.729a codecs supported Flexibility to choose the Codec optimized for your application/network

SIP Mobile VoIP Client Pocket Gphone
What is PocketGphone? PocketGphone is a VoIP
client that adheres to the Session Initiated
Protocol (SIP) standard for voice
communications on IP networks. SIP enables
network managers to connect the VoIP world to the
Public Switch Telephone Network (PSTN) through
SIP/PSTN gateways. Pocket Gphone has been
optimized for the resource constraints of
PocketPC devices and is based on the proprietary
Gphone Engine. The Gphone Engine has a footprint
of only 40kb, requires only 32kbps bandwidth and
adds an industry leading low of 50 ms of software
latency while enabling full duplex voice
communication. Gphone and PocketGphone have been
downloaded by more than 5 million users since
2001. There are more than 100,000 active users
of Gphone products.
  • Gphone Engine
  • Gphone solutions are based on VLIs propriety
Gphone Engine which enables high quality, full
duplex VoIP on resource constrained devices.
  • 1. Minimal processor load
  • 2. Small Footprint (just 40k bytes)
  • 3. Low software latency (less than 50 ms) with
high quality full duplex voice communication
  • Common problems with other VoIP solutions
  • Large memory footprint
  • High latency, sometimes worse than cellular
  • High CPU and power needs
  • Limited to only one device platform
  • Cant work in NAT environments
  • The Gphone Engine has been designed from the
ground up for IP based mobile consumer
    electronics devices.
