Title: EROSION
1EROSION
2GRAVITY
4 TYPES OF MASS MOVEMENT CAUSED BY GRAVITY
1. Landslide 2. Mudflow 3. Slump 4.
Creep
3LANDSLIDE
Most destructive . When rock and soil slide
quickly down a steep slope. Where road builders
have cut highways through hills or mountains.
4MUDFLOW
Rapid downhill movement of water, rock and soil
Can be 60 water. Usually after heavy rains.
5SLUMP
A mass of rock and soil suddenly slips down a
slope. Moves in one large mass. Often occurs
when water soaks the base of a mass of soil that
is rich in clay.
6CREEP
Very slow downhill movement of rock and soil.
Can occur on gentle slopes. Barely noticeable.
Tilts gravestones, fence posts, telephone poles.
Result from freezing and thawing of water in
cracked layers of rock beneath the soil.
7NUMBER ONE POLLUNTANT
8Sediment FenceKeeps sediment on the construction
site, not in our streams.
9Sediment PondKeeps sediment from contained in
the pond. Lets it settle to the bottom before
allowing water to move off into our streams.
10Where do we get our drinking water?
11Where does your water go?
All run off, rain water, sediment, pollutants,
run directly into our streams. In is NOT legal
to dump ANYTHING into our streams and rivers!
12What happens when you flush?
We have pipes designated for sewage flow.
Sometimes these pipes are also used for rain
water. If there is a huge amount of rain, they
can overflow the system and raw sewage ends up in
our streams!

streamsdirectly or indirectly! - RememberYou drink that water!
