Definitions
The practice has helped to reach one or more
RESCUE sustainability objectives but was only
applicable in an individual case (within one of
the 8 case study sites)
Single sustainable practice
The practice has helped to reach a RESCUE
sustainability objective and is widely applicable
at a national level (within one of the 4 RESCUE
countries)
Good practice
It is a good practice that is widely applicable
( transferable) at a European level (the 4
Rescue countries the SVT countries)
Best practice

The practice has not yet demonstrated to have
helped to reach a RESCUE sustainability
objective, but it has a high potential for
success on a national level (within one of the 4
RESCUE countries)
Promising good practice
The practice has not yet demonstrated to have
helped to reach a RESCUE sustainability
objective, but it has a high potential for
success on a European level (the 4 RESCUE
countries the SVT countries)
Promising best practice

Definitions
The same topic can be covered by several
good/best practices (e. g. from several nations).
Its relative value must be decided upon from case
to case. The base year for the definition of
(promising) good/best practice within RESCUE is
2004

For a good practice to be transferable it must be
Usable (are we allowed to use it)
Effective (does it deliver our objectives)
Viable (is it economically affordable)


If these conditions are met, the practice is best
practice

of sustainable good practice
For a good practice to be effective it must be
capable of delivering its objectives within the
constraints imposed by its physical location.
Constraints can be defined by the barriers
imposed by eg adverse geological or climatic
conditions, inadequate skills, deficient
infrastructure.

sustainable and transferable good practice, ie
sustainable best practice
