  • All students will follow the core and statutory
    courses at Key Stage 4 for 16 periods out of 25.
  • So what will they do with the remaining 9 periods
    a week?
  • What other subjects are available to study?

Foundation subjects at Key Stage 4
  • Many subjects taught at Key Stage 3 do not have
    to be studied at Key Stage 4. These (along with
    some new courses to Key Stage 4) are called
    Foundation subjects.
  • Foundation subjects Students choose three
    subjects from the selection of foundation
    subjects offered that best suit their strengths,
    skills and future needs.

Off site provision at local colleges
  • The Off Site Provision offers three vocational
    courses via the Increased flexibility Programme
    (IFP)
  • They are
  • Basic Construction Skills
  • Motor Vehicle studies
  • Hair Beauty

Example 1 Jane
  • Jane is very able and works hard. She attained
    Level 6 in all her tests at the end of Key Stage
    3. She is good at ICT and Art. She has ambitions
    to go on to University.
  • Jane follows Pathway 1. She opts for Applied ICT
    as 1st choice as she knows that this
    qualification will assist in an application to
    University. Her 3rd option is Art.

  • Barry works hard but finds some subjects
    difficult. At the end of Key Stage 3 he attained
    Level 4 in English and Mathematics and Level 5 in
    Science.
  • Barry chose to follow Pathway B. He has
    ambitions to follow a career in Health and Social
    Care. He opted for Health and Social Care in
    option 2 3. He chose Geography in option 4.

Example 3 Kevin
  • Kevin likes school, but struggles in some of his
    subjects. Teacher assessment awarded Level 4 for
    English, Mathematics and Science at the end of
    Key Stage 3.
  • At Key Stage 4, Kevin will follow some GCSE
    subjects, but both the school and parents agree
    that Kevin would benefit from following Pathway 3.

  • Indicate 4 choices in order of preference
  • Must make 4 choices even if any of the choices
    are double subject GCSE or BTECs
  • Broad and balanced

  • Presentations in assembly
  • Speak to form tutor, subject teacher, Head of
    Department or Head of Learning Guidance.
  • Year 9 Consultation Evening January 24th
  • Year 9 Options Evening February 21st
  • Options form to be returned February 21st
  • Keep a record of choices made
  • Choices confirmed June 2008
